Survivor was written by Chuck Palahniuk. The same author who wrote Fight Club. But I have never read that book or seen the movie before taking this class. I have seen clips from this movie in class, and found it interesting.

I found it odd that he wrote Survivor starting from the last page of the book and ending on the first. But I found it intriguing that he could use small sentences to communicate large parts of the story. I enjoy the aspect, and wish that I could write the same way, but know that I would add more description. I would want to make sure that my reader understands the rules of the story before continuing on to the next part. My game/book would be more progressive, and the reader a.k.a the player would need to read each book in order to grasp what was going on. But, like Palahniuk, I would try to keep my audience reading to try and find out how it all plays out in the end.

The last thing I noticed about the was that a world had been created between the main character Tender Branson and Fertility that is strikingly similar to Adam and Eve in the Old Testament. Firstly, it seems that

From what I know of H.P. Lovecraft, he was a writer that had many trials in his life, and he wrote stories to vent some of his anger. His writing is very descriptive, and he does a very good job of painting a picture for his readers. In my opinion, his most notable stories were the ones involving the Cthulhu Mythos.

The stories involved an evil alien god figure named Cthulhu, which also happened to be a name used in a tabletop roleplaying game based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft called “Call of Cthulhu” after the story he wrote.

Hello again,

I just read Endgame and found it somewhat confusing. In this one-act play, it seems to be about a family that is stuck inside a house due to disabilities or some other problems they have. But in the flow of things I’ve heard that it is meant to be a weird sort of allegory for chess leading to “Endgame” as it were, with the “King” character being checkmated. However, this is not the idea I got from it. My first conclusion was that this story is about a family of bloodsuckers.

From the way the characters are described in this story, one would think that they are vampires or some such thing. But vampires that live in trash cans instead of the classic wooden coffins. Also, it could be that they are vampires nearing the end of their life cycle because they ran out of victims to feed on other than their caretaker.

With the lack of information it could be something else entirely, but I like the possible idea that their caretaker may have given them all the victims in the area and one day could find no more that were suitable for his masters. Therefore, the vampires must remain inside the house until they die as it were. The fact being that they are already about as dead as they’re likely to get without help. Then they could eventually become sick of their very existence and eventually become suicidal and try to think of interesting ways of killing themselves and the story would progress from there.

Interesting coincidence?:

For those who may have heard of the television show “Quantum Leap”, the main character is a Dr. Sam Beckett. Which is pretty much identical to the name of the author who wrote this story. If anyone else sees this, I would be interested to know if there is a connection between the two. If so, please feel free to post a reply to this blog.

Hello all,

This is my first blog and it is about Frankenstein and some of its adaptations. Frankenstein is the original work written by Mary Shelley, and there have been many adaptations of it in movies, television, and video and computer games. But most seem to fall short of the original storyline of the monster having intelligence, and his personality. They show him as this mindless thing that knows no more then the fact that he is alive, but he just wants to be loved.

In the typical computer game, like Castlevania, Frankenstein’s monster is a mindless killing machine, and Igor rides on his back and hurls fireballs at the player. In another game
